Inspiring Ways

The Love Boat was a romantic comedy that ran from the mid 70’s through the mid 80s. The set was on a luxury cruise ship and it featured different stars each week, and even as a kid I remember the fun cruise wear!

A small collection to give a nod to this great show and so we can all dream of a romantic trip on a luxury ship to get us through this January hump!

Cantilever Brass 80s Hollywood Regency Counter-stool - Set of 2 - $225

These stools have been reupholstered in vintage tan velvet, very close in colour to the original fabric. Tuck nicely under the counter and add a lot of interested to an island. They are in great vintage condition with some wear to the brass finish. Mostly wearing on the foot bars. Some minor rusting at the joins.

Lots of questions about my closet clean so let’s get into it!

First thing- put on a great playlist and make sure you have a few hours set aside as this can take some time ⏳

Start by pulling everything from your closet and drawers and dumping it on your bed, pile things in categories (tops, bottoms, dresses)

Now try EVERYTHING on! Seems awful but trying things on is a quick reminder of why you love or don’t love a piece. I highly recommend starting with dresses and jumpsuits, if I leave them until last I end up skipping them resulting in a lot of ill fitting dresses hanging in my closet for seasons 👗

As you go through ask your self- Do I like the way it fits? Do I wear it? If not, why?

Asking these simple questions will help you make quick decisions and you can start placing items in your Keep, Mend/Alter, Swap/Sell and Donate piles.

I also create a pile for things that can get stored for the season and for pieces that I may not wear now but LOVE because for special things I believe there is room for a someday section 😊

As you complete a category hang it back in your closet together and colour blocked, it helps your closet feel more organized and makes styling and creating outfits easier.

Now that you have your Keep pile organized and put away time to deal with the rest!

Mend/Alter- we have gotten away from this and that has a lot to do with the quality of fast fashion. Take in the waist of your trousers, repair the small whole in that vintage sweater, let out the hip on that dress. Make your clothes work for you before just tossing them away.

Swap/Sell- Host a clothing swap for your friends or attend a local swap, check out @swap.studio.yeg for some great events! Try Poshmark or FB marketplace to sell pieces that need to be reloved.

Donate- Choose a charity thrift shop that gives back directly to your community.

Now try EVERYTHING on! Seems awful but trying things on is a quick reminder of why you love or don’t love a piece. I highly recommend starting with dresses and jumpsuits, if I leave them until last I end up skipping them resulting in a lot of ill fitting dresses hanging in my closet for seasons 👗

As you go through ask your self- Do I like the way it fits? Do I wear it? If not, why?

Asking these simple questions will help you make quick decisions and you can start placing items in your Keep, Mend/Alter, Swap/Sell and Donate piles.

I also create a pile for things that can get stored for the season and for pieces that I may not wear now but LOVE because for special things I believe there is room for a someday section 😊

As you complete a category hang it back in your closet together and colour blocked, it helps your closet feel more organized and makes styling and creating outfits easier.

Now that you have your Keep pile organized and put away time to deal with the rest!

Mend/Alter- we have gotten away from this and that has a lot to do with the quality of fast fashion. Take in the waist of your trousers, repair the small whole in that vintage sweater, let out the hip on that dress. Make your clothes work for you before just tossing them away.

Swap/Sell- Host a clothing swap for your friends or attend a local swap, check out @swap.studio.yeg for some great events! Try Poshmark or FB marketplace to sell pieces that need to be reloved.

Donate- Choose a charity thrift shop that gives back directly to your community.
